Recline

The short definition

Recline is how far back a pram or stroller seat tips. Children under 6 months old should only be placed in a stroller if it reclines to at least 130 degrees.

What it actually means

130 degrees is close to flat, but not quite. It is the number to ask about in the shop, because the word on the box will not tell him.

A newborn has no neck strength and cannot be propped up. So the question is never "is this a pram or a stroller". It is "how far back does this seat actually go".

Push the seat back in the shop and look at it. If it will not go near flat, it does not suit a newborn, whatever it says on the label.

Where Dadda will hear it

On the spec sheet, from a salesperson, and in the manual. Rarely in plain words, which is why it is here.

Not to be confused with

A bassinet attachment. A bassinet on a pram frame is already flat — that is what it is. Recline is about how far a seat tips back.
