Sterilise feeding equipment
What this is for
Everything near bub's mouth gets sterilised until twelve months, dummies and cups too.
Before Dadda starts
On the bench:
- A bottle brush and a teat brush.
- Detergent.
- A big saucepan.
- A clean container with a lid.
The steps
- Take every piece apart.
- Wash each piece in hot soapy water. Brush the teat holes.
- Everything into a big saucepan on the back burner.
- Cover with water. Tip each bottle to let the air out.
- Boil five minutes. Do not let it boil dry.
- Heat off. Let it cool in the pot.
- Lift it out once it is hand hot.
- Spare gear into the clean container, in the fridge.
- Boil it again within twenty-four hours.
The other three methods
Boiling is the preferred method. Steam, microwave and chemical units all work too, and the unit's instructions are the method.
Chemicals add rules no brand changes: plastic or glass only, everything under with no bubbles, drained not rinsed, fresh daily, out of reach.
What goes wrong
- Sterilising something that was not clean. It does not work. Wash first.
- Parts left screwed together. Milk sits in the thread where no brush reaches.
- An air bubble in the bottle. It floats and the inside stays dry.
